Things have been a bit quiet on this blog for quite some time…

Life has happened, with no time to squash in some quality travel time! Since leaving South Korea for good, we settled in back home in South Africa, catching up lost time with good friends and the family. We bought a car and a house at the ocean, and are busying ourselves with various projects.

Did I mention that we’re also parents now?! During our last few months in South Korea, M gave birth to two beautiful girls. What a game changer! Life will never be the same again – in a good way (although some days you want to say otherwise)… The twins are walking/running around everywhere now, and you just can’t believe how fast they’re growing.

M has started a small business selling all kinds of baby accessories (Lienkerbel), and I have completed a course in Cape Town to now be acknowledged as a registered South African Tourist Guide. So, if any of you would like to experience the beauty of Cape Town and surrounds, don’t hesitate to get in contact! Have a look at my website to see what you can experience: http://www.makusouthafricatours.co.za

So that’s a long overdue update on what the Backpacklocals have been up to. Till next time – CHEERS!

Backpacklocals team just got bigger!

Travel Film: Vacation Vibes in South Africa

Went back home in August during our summer vacation here in South Korea. It was such a nice reprieve from the humidity at that time!

It was also the first time testing out our new camera – the Panasonic Lumix G7. Still have to get used to editing in 4K, but the quality is awesome!

It was only a short visit, but so worth it. We surely live in an amazingly beautiful country!

Travel Film: New Zealand (North Island)

We ended our amazing journey through NZ on the North Island. It’s very different from the South Island, but unique in its own right! We did some amazing rafting (above and under ground…), and most probably the most epic hike of our lives… The North Island certainly didn’t disappoint!

Check out our travel film with highlights of the North Island.

Guide: Tongariro Alpine Crossing (epic day hike in New Zealand)

Planning to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing DAY HIKE? Don’t know where to start? Read on.

The i-Site in Taupo is amazing, and can help you with any information you would possibly need to know about the hike. They can book your transportation, they give you a pamphlet describing the route and the different ‘legs of the hike’, and answer any other queries you might have. Continue reading
